Encouraging Greater Use of Green Line After Taipei New Year’s Party, from Midnight to 6AM New Year’s Day, 2025 the Taipei Metro Offering Free Ridership from Nanjing Sanmin Station and Taipei Arena Station (Issued by Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government)

2024-12-13

According to past experience, there will be large crowds of people taking the Taipei Metro from the venue site after the Taipei New Year's Party, and most people utilize the Blue and Red lines after the event, resulting in long wait times for riders on these routes. To encourage people dispersing from the venue post-party to spread out over more lines, the Taipei Metro has planned special incentive measures. From midnight to 6am on January 1, 2025, individuals using electronic tickets and single-journey tickets at the Green Line’s Nanjing Sanmin Station and Taipei Arena Station can travel for free for an unlimited number of stops. The Department of Transportation (DOT), Taipei City Government strongly encourages the public to make full use of the Green Line to disperse.

DOT states that the Taipei New Year’s Party is a major annual large-scale happening for the city, over the years attracting visitors in great number to the Xinyi Planning District and peripheral areas to watch the fireworks and concerts in front of Shifu Road, and expresses gratitude to the many event visitors who have taken heed of the city government’s call over the years to use the metro system to attend the celebration. The DOT has observed that most partygoers take the Blue Line and Red Line to disperse from the event venue, causing extended wait times to enter the nearby metro stations. Therefore, to encourage more people to walk or take a shuttle bus to a Green Line metro station, in addition to planning a free shuttle-bus service with pickup on the east side of Guangfu South Road (Zhongxiao East Road to Civic Boulevard), with the shuttle buses going to MRT Nanjing Sanmin Station on the Green Line, the Taipei Metro is also introducing another incentive. From midnight to 6am on January 1, 2025, all passengers taking the Green Line from Nanjing Sanmin Station and Taipei Arena Station can ride free for an unlimited number of stops. Holders of an electronic ticket can directly swipe their card to enter the station. Passengers who want to use a single-journey ticket can go to the dedicated service counter in front of the ticket vending machines at Nanjing Sanmin Station or Taipei Arena Station to obtain a single-journey ticket.

Further detailed information on this preferential offer is posted on the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation's official website (https://www.metro.taipei/). If you have any questions, you can also call the TRTC customer service hotline (02-25363001, ext. 9).
